Brighton and Hove Albion Opinion: Seagulls must get Rachid Alioui

Brighton and Hove Albion have worked extra hard to maintain their Premier League place, having finished in a highly respectable 15th place last season with 7 points separating them from 18th place Swansea City.

This season though, things haven’t gone quite to plan as they are currently close to the relegation zone. With most teams having just 10 games left to play, getting to last season’s 40-point mark seems like a distant reality.

That would require Brighton to at least win four out of their next ten fixtures which seems like a pretty steep task for a team that has only managed to win 7 out of their 27 games so far this season.

Brighton’s safety is far from guaranteed but the reason they are in this position is quite obvious.

Glen Murray is an English striker who was signed by Brighton from Bournemouth in 2017 after spending a couple of loan spells at the Amex Stadium. He is a veteran of the English game and has been Brighton’s most influential player this season.

He has pitched in heavily towards the well-being of this Brighton side by scoring 10 goals from his 27 games and is their top scorer in the league by a considerable distance.

Although he has been their talisman for a couple of seasons now, he is currently 35 and being a Premier League striker certainly isn’t a possible job. With next season in view, it would be in the club’s best interest for Chris Hughton to target a striker in the summer.

Given their style of play, the ideal man for this Brighton side is Nimes Olympique striker Rachid Alioui, who was an absolute revelation in the Ligue 2 last year. He played an almost starring role, ensuring that Nimes gained promotion up to the Ligue 1.

This season though, he has struggled with the tactical aspect of French football but given his attributes, he would be best suited to the aggressive and rather dynamic nature of the English game.

He has scored 4 goals from his 18 Ligue 1 appearances this season but his potential surpasses this number by a long way. With the right of coaching, Alioui could one day be a starring man in the Premier League scene.

Over 6ft 2in tall, his presence will certainly be felt in either box. His hold-up play is rather commendable as well. His movement in and around the is are exceptional while he finishes like a predator as well. This move is a no-brainer for Hughton and he must go all out to get it done.
