The 5 Best Goalkeepers In The Premier League – Szczesny In Top 5

Share

Why should strikers get all the credit? Goalkeepers play a key role in a team’s success. They can win games single-handedly or a single blunder can cost the whole game. Let’s find out who are the top 5 goal keepers in the premier league.

5. Asmir Begovic

The Stoke shot-stopper has risen to prominence over the past few seasons, which has earned him links with a host of England’s top clubs. Mooted as a replacement for Petr Cech at Chelsea, and also possibly the player that can take Manchester City to the next level. It was also thought that he was on his way to Liverpool, until the Reds decided that Belgian Simon Mignolet was the better option. The Bosnia international is a vital part of Stoke’s Premier League survival over the past few seasons, and it is still a shock that such a talented player is still at one of Europe’s ugliest clubs. Expect the former Portsmouth man to get the move he deserves in January.

4. Simon Mignolet

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has steadily built his reputation as one of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers over the past 3 seasons. Starting his journey in England with Sunderland, Liverpool noticed the Belgian international when looking for a replacement for Pepe Reina, and on the 25th of June, he joined the Kop and what followed was a great time for Liverpool goalkeeper. He has been a big part of Liverpool’s resurgence this season, as it is the first time in 5 years that they have looked worthy of a spot in the UEFA Champions League. A part of Belgium’s current golden generation, Mignolet could develop into one of the best in the business.

3. Wojciech Szczesny

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has been criticised in the past for his lack of consistency and often delayed reactions, but this season he has been one of the most improved figures in the Premier League, starting every game so far for leaders and title chasers Arsenal. As like every player, he has been susceptible to the odd mistake, but no more than most, as he has kept Emiliano Viviano out of the first team, who is in most people’s eyes, a better goalkeeper. Finally the replacement for Jens Lehmann the Gunners have been seeking, the Poland international could take Petr Cech’s throne of the best Premier League goalkeeper when the Czech hangs up his boots.

2. Hugo Lloris

The second most naturally gifted ‘keeper in the Premier League, Hugo Lloris deserves his spot despite enduring a tough start to the season. The France international was tipped by many to go on to be the best in the world while he was at Lyon, but a lack of interest saw him make the move to Spurs, which he was hoping to use to springboard himself on to the likes of Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Juventus. After conceding 6 against Manchester City, he is a controversial selection, but if he is given the chance to turn it around, he will.

1. Petr Cech

Who else could top the list of the Premier League’s best goalkeepers? The Chelsea man has been inspirational at times and has gone head to head with legendary custodians Iker Casillas and Gianluigi Buffon for the title of the best of his generation, no other Premier League goalkeeper has came close since Jens Lehmann’s time at Arsenal. The Czech Republic international is the reason why Chelsea won the Champions League in 2012, and although the Blues did it in the ugliest of manners, it will be a nice thought that the former Sparta Prague man was a champion of Europe at least once, he deserves it.
