Swansea have bagged a coup by singing youngster for £3m and credit goes to Graham Potter

Why Swansea City have done themselves a huge favour by signing Bersant Celina

According to reports, Championship side Swansea City have signed Bersant Celina from Premier League champions Manchester City on a four-year deal, reportedly worth around £3m.

Celina, 21, played four times for Manchester City’s first-team in 2016 before joining Dutch top-flight side FC Twente on loan. He spent last season on loan at Ipswich Town, scoring 8 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions.

Swansea City were relegated from the Premier League this past season and new manager Graham Potter has a massive task on his hands to get the Welsh club back to the top-flight at the first time of asking. Despite bringing in a few signings, it appears there is plenty of work to be done before the squad reaches Potter’s level of expectations.

A lack of creativity was to blame for Swansea’s downfall last season as they managed just 28 goals in 38 games – a division-low record shared by Huddersfield Town. So keeping that in mind, it was a priority for Potter to bring attacking reinforcements and he has done exactly the same.

After signing Joel Asoro from Sunderland, Potter has brought in Celina from Manchester City to add pace and creativity to the Swans’ attack.

Celina shone during a loan spell in the Championship with Ipswich Town last season, scoring 8 times in all competitions but failed to maintain his consistency. Regardless of netting 8 times, which is a brilliant return for a young playmaker, Celina failed to deliver the goods regularly and was criticised for his attitude at times.

Certainly, Ipswich’s style of play under Mick McCarthy didn’t really allow Celina to flourish but Potter’s possession-based style of football would suit him better. The 21-year-old is a versatile attacker, capable of playing on the left-wing, on the right-wing and as a No.10.

He is an exciting player who can score spectacular goals and is a goal threat due to his knack for shooting from distance.

The Kosovo international, could, therefore, prove to be an inspired signing for the Swans. For £3m, he could prove to be a real steal due to his unpredictability and ability to impact games.

At 21, Celina, a player with huge potential, has his best years ahead of him and certainly appears to have made the right choice by joining Potter’s forces at the Liberty Stadium. He could be a player to watch out for in the Championship next term. Well done, Graham Potter. A good signing made.
