As per a report by The Sun, Swansea City are interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur starlet Cameron Carter-Vickers on loan this season.
Since they got relegated from the top-flight last season, the Swans must aim towards returning to the Premier League by the end of the season. As things stand, it is unlikely for the young defender to play regularly for Spurs, which could be detrimental to his progress. Hence, moving to Swansea on loan will be a good deal not just for the player but also for the club.
Carter-Vickers has struggled to make a mark for Mauricio Pochettino’s men so far. And with the likes of Davinson Sanchez, Juan Foyth, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen ahead of him in the pecking order, moving to Swansea seems like the best option.
The youngster spent the previous season out on loan with Sheffield United and Ipswich Town, impressing for both clubs. Given his level of performances in the second-tier, Swansea could solve a number of their first-team issues by signing him temporarily.
As things stand, Graham Potter’s men lost Alfie Mawson and Federico Fernandez in the recently concluded transfer window. Hence, signing Carter-Vickers would definitely prove to be a coup, given the situation right now.
And as far as his performances in the Championship are concerned, the youngster proved to be quite impressive. He scored for Sheffield on his debut and put in some reassuring displays at the back for both clubs.
Swansea have gotten off to a decent start in the Championship but to ensure they continue in this manner, they must shore up their backline. Mawson and Fernandez were two key figures at the back and while Carter-Vickers may not be as experienced, he would certainly boost their depth to a considerable extent.
Fighting for a spot in the Premier League won’t be easy and this season will be a long one. Hence, Potter must do everything he can to acquire the youngster on loan.
Despite being so young, Carter-Vickers is a formidable presence at the back. With his burly frame and physical strength, he could prove to be a nightmarish prospect for opposition attackers. He is adept with the ball at his feet and is aerially proficient as well, making him the ideal choice to fill the void in Swansea’s central defence.
