Superstar Striker Confirms Chelsea Were Ready To Pay €70m For Him In The Summer

Alvaro Morata was linked with a number of clubs through the summer transfer window including top Premier League clubs like Arsenal and Chelsea. The player who was brought back to Real from Juventus after the former used the buy-back clause that was included in Morata’s contracts with Juventus.

“Chelsea showed the most interest, Antonio Conte had already signed me for Juventus. And it was a very good offer this time. I would have been the most expensive Spanish player ever.”-Morata  told Sport Bild.

The striker has now confirmed that Chelsea had made an offer to Real for the player. From what Morata revealed, Chelsea had offered to make him one of the most expensive Spanish player ever. The player stated that the Blues were willing to offer an amount around €70m.

It was expected that Real Madrid would sell the player in a profit after activating the buy-back option and bringing him back to Bernabeu from Juventus. However nothing of the sort happened and Chelsea eventually ended up bringing in Michy Batshuayi from Marseille in a deal worth £33m, while Morata stayed at his boyhood club to fight for a place in the squad, under manager Zinedine Zidane.

The Spaniard scored 12 goals in 47 appearances for the Serie A club last season and was also involved with Spain’s EURO 2016 campaign in France.

The player went on to praise his team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo and Polish Sensation Robert Lewandowski saying: “Lewandowski is the best striker there is, also because of his technique despite his height.

“I try to learn a lot by watching him. I don’t miss a match when he’s playing, and I try to learn from his movements.”

And he said he preferred Ronaldo to Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, adding: “I see how he fights and how he works his butt off every single day.”
