Liverpool have enjoyed a mixed start to their 2016-2017 season. The opening weekend’s victory over Arsenal was followed by a confidence damaging 2-0 defeat against the newly promoted. The performance at Turf Moor was shambolic, to say the least, but it is unlikely that Klopp will make a lot of changes. They will now face Tottenham at White Hart Lane in an early Saturday kick-off. Tottenham are unbeaten this season with one win and one draw, therefore it won’t be easy against them. After arriving at Anfield mid-way through last season, Klopp did excellently well to take the team to two finals. They couldn’t cross the finishing line but there were enough signs to make the fans confident about the future.
The former Borussia Dortmund manager has done well this summer, bringing in a host of quality players to Anfield, including the likes Wijnaldum and Sadio Mane. Liverpool are yet to play a home match this season, therefore if they can get something from the match against Tottenham, it will prove to be a very good return from a difficult run of matches. Here is the predicted Liverpool line-up to face Tottenham.
Mignolet couldn’t do much about either of the two goals against Burnley, however, he would have been disappointed at letting in a goal from the first shot of the game. With summer signing Loris Karius sidelined due to a broken hand, the Belgian will continue between the sticks even on Saturday.
With Alberto Moreno struggling for form and consistency, Jurgen Klopp has very little option but to start Milner in that left-back spot. The English international doesnt look comfortable there but with no real alternative, he will continue there on Saturday as well. Clyne will slot in at right-back, he had a horrendous day at Turf Moor but that could be a blip in what has been a pretty consistent time at Liverpool. Ragnar Klavan will start in central defense alongside Lovren. The centre back pairing struggled agaisnt Burnley but with injuries to the other centre-backs, Klopp will do well to give this duo one more chance.
Liverpool desperately need a proper holding midfielder, Can is the closest proper central midfielder Klopp has in his squad, therefore it is important he brings him back in the starting XI for the match on Saturday. Can could partner summer signing Wijnaldum in the centre. Lallana should start in that number 10 role, after a good performance agaisnt Burnley. He was by far the best Liverpool player that day. He will be flanked by Coutinho on the left-wing and Firmino on the right.
The English international did not enjoy the best of afternoons on his return to the starting XI against Burnley. There were glimpses of his exceptional talent but they were few and far between. He will need to get going as soon as possible, if Liverpool are going to dream about finishing in the top four.
