Strongest Liverpool Lineup To Face Everton: Ings And Sturridge To Start Upfront

Share

Liverpool make their shortest trip of the season on Sunday when they travel to Goodison park for the 204th Merseyside Derby. The Reds will want to take back home all three points after a 1-1 draw against FC Sion at Anfield in midweek in the Europa League. Liverpool have just won one game and drawn four, out of their last five games, while Everton have won three and drawn two. Roberto Martinez’s men are in good form having tasted defeat only once this season, as well as being unbeaten in their last six games in all competitions.

Goalkeeper: Simon Mignolet

Simon Mignolet has finally started to find a bit of form and with Brad Jones still out injured, the Belgian is certain to keep his place in goal. The Belgian has not kept a clean sheet since the end of August and it is highly unlikely, especially with Liverpool’s defense struggling, that he will keep a clean sheet against Everton.

Defense: Sakho, Skrtel, Can, Moreno and Clyne

Liverpool’s best three defenders at the moment Sakho, Skrtel and Can should line up in front of Mignolet. Sakho and Skrtel will be making their return to the starting eleven while Can might be dropped into defence to hold off the strong Everton attack. The consistent Clyne will partner a rejuvenated Moreno as the wing-backs.  Clyne has definitely been the best summer signing for Liverpool this summer while Moreno has been in superb form defensively and he also adds a lot going forward. It is a huge game and manager Brendan Rodgers could rely on these five to stand like a wall in front of the goal and break down all the Toffees’ attacks.

Midfield: Lucas, Milner and Coutinho

Lucas was brilliant against Aston Villa doing everything right and he will probably be the first name on the Liverpool team sheet. The defensive midfielder has brought a lot of balance to the team, he will need to be on top form to handle Ross Barkley. He will be accompanied in the middle of the park by the captain in standing Milner and the Brazilian Coutinho. Liverpool have struggled sometimes to find that attacking outlet, that if repeated could well come back to hurt the reds.

Attack: Ings and Sturridge

We expect Liverpool to field an all English strike force, with Daniel Sturridge back to form and fitness and Ings working hard to cement his place in the team. The Manager would surely be expecting some early goals from his attackers. Christian Benteke could possibly make it to the bench though he is still doubtful.
