Talking points from Liverpool’s 1-0 win over the Seagulls

It was another enthralling win for Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool, who have now made it 3 wins from as many games. Liverpool once again held their nerve to claim a 1-0 win, against Brighton and Hove Albion at Anfield. The Reds sit on top of the table and are the only team yet to concede a goal in the league this season.

Jurgen Klopp’s men are starting to emerge as serious title contenders this season, with the manager strengthening the team in key areas. There seems to be an aura and belief around the Liverpool team at this moment. It’s clear neither Klopp nor the fans will get complacent at such an early stage but hopes will surely soar after such commanding performances.

Here are the three talking points fron Liverpool’s third consecutive league win of the season.

Squad Integrity

Jurgen Klopp deployed an unchanged squad for the third time in a row and there’s enough reason to back that up. Despite the likes of Fabinho, Lallana and Henderson missing from the starting XI, there’s a sense of immense cohesion and fluidity in the current Liverpool team.

Each and every single player seems aligned to one another’s game. For a manager who often tweaks his matchday teams, Klopp has now found a close to perfect starting eleven at Liverpool.

Defensive masterclass

Liverpool are now starting to show that they are not only solid going forward but also at the back. The Reds are the only team yet to concede a goal this season and it’s purely because of their well-drilled defense.

In just a year, Klopp has put together a backline consisting the likes of Virgil Van Dijk, Andrew Robertson, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dejan Lovren. But with the Croatian currently out injured, Joe Gomez has stepped in to steal the show.

Joe Gomez

Van Dijk has put in flawless performances in all three of his games, while Robertson and Alexander Arnold have been a delight to watch. No team has kept more clean sheets than Liverpool since January and there’s good reason to justify that.

Alisson’s antics

The Brazilian was finally handed a testing afternoon against the Seagulls but he made a couple of fine saves to justify the hefty price tag. Alisson seemed almost too cool in goal. The former Roma shot-stopper dinked the ball over Anthony Knockaert when Van Dijk played a slightly off-pace back pass to the keeper.

The goalkeeper was almost cut out by Glen Murray but once again showed composure in playing the ball out safely. Liverpool have definitely got the man they’ve wanting all these years.
