According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Tottenham have reignited their interest in Crystal Palace star Wilfried Zaha this summer.
Back in April, the Daily Star claimed that the Eagles wanted £75 million for the Ivory Coast international, which Tottenham baulked at. It is believed that Mauricio Pochettino is a big fan of Wilfried Zaha, who has impressed in a Crystal Palace shirt for the last three seasons and had the best season at Selhurst Park last term, bagging 10 goals and as many assists.
Zaha, 26, has made it clear to Palace he wants to leave this summer and join a club in the Champions League. And Tottenham could be the ideal destination for the Ivorian.
Spurs star Christian Eriksen’s future is in doubt, with the Dane entering the final year of his contract at the club. The likes of Real Madrid, Manchester United and Juventus have all been linked with the playmaker, who has been an extremely crucial player for Mauricio Pochettino in the last few seasons.
If Spurs are not able to agree on a new contract with the Denmark international, it would be wise for Pochettino to cash in on Eriksen this summer. Losing the Denmark international would be a big blow to Spurs but his sale would allow Pochettino to address the key areas of his squad.
If Pochettino is to realistically challenge for the Premier League title and other trophies next season, he should persuade the club to break the bank for Wilfried Zaha.
Having shown consistency and real quality in the final third in recent years, Zaha is one of the most sought-after players in the Premier League. The Ivorian is an immensely talented forward, blessed with pace, power, dribbling skills and ability to score goals. He would fit into Pochettino’s exciting style of football, whilst potentially forming a lethal understanding with the likes of Son Heung-min, Lucas Moura and Harry Kane.
Kane has been suffering from injury problems for the last two seasons and it’s high time Pochettino brings in another forward that can reduce the burden of scoring goals from the England international’s shoulders. Zaha would be that kind of player, who would undoubtedly give Spurs a huge boost in the final third by adding real width along with pace, power and movement.
Zaha has come a long way from the disastrous spell at Manchester United a few years ago, truly developing into one of Premier League’s exciting forwards. He has matured into a top player and looks ready for the step up to a top-six Premier League side.
