Mauricio Pochettino has been quite calm in what has been an intense transfer season this year in the Premier League. He is yet to sign a player for his first team this summer but has enough time to find the right man yet. But he is currently running out of time to solve a problem that was left by English full-back Kyle Walker.

The 26-year old decided to quit the club and he was made the most expensive defender in the world by Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, who paid £50m for his services. Pochettino can now use these funds to not just solve the crisis at the back but also to add a star player to his attacking armoury.

However, he will have to be proactive to make sure that he replaces Walker this summer but at the moment, he is seriously finding it difficult. Pochettino used Kieran Tripper at right-back after he decided not to use Walker late last season. Though Trippier is a decent option, it will be foolish if they go into season with Trippier as the first choice right-back in the Champions League. Now that Trippier is out injured, it is high time Poch considers signing a right-back.

At 26, Trippier is a decent option to have in the squad and his experience can help Spurs stay strong at the back in the domestic competitions. Playing as a part of a backline that is among the best in the league, Trippier has not been too bad, but he is not going to help his side to a league title, not by a long way. So the right-back position is currently a crisis for Pochettino, which he will have to solve quickly.

In a 4-2-3-1 system that the Argentine prefers, Trippier is a decent option but he does not have any backups in the first team. In a 3-4-3 system that Pochettino tinkered with, Trippier is not such a great option. So the manager might be left with no choice but to spend in the transfer market and he will have to decide on whether to spend big or trust a youngster in that role.

The manager is not afraid of giving young bloods a chance at the highest stage and the likes of Petar Stojanovic, Lukas Klostermann and Benjamin Henrichs are all such young options. He can also look at more established stars like Cedric Soares, Joao Cancelo, Domagoj Vida and Mario Fernandes, who are all established options for the manager.
