Solid Lovren – The Best And The Worst Rated Liverpool Players vs Manchester United

Share

Liverpool’s pursuit of Chelsea on top of the Premier League log was slowed down at the Theatre of Dreams after a late goal saw them fail to pick up all 3 points, meaning the Reds are now yet to get a win in their last 4 games across all competitions.

Milner’s penalty had put the visitors ahead after Pogba handled the ball from a corner kick, but the goal wasn’t enough to help keep them stay within the touching distance of Chelsea, as they got pegged back just minutes to time via a Zlatan Ibrahimovic header.

Coutinho’s introduction had seemed to offer more hope while they were still a goal up, and the Brazilian indeed added life to their attack, but it wasn’t enough as Firmino and Wijnaldum failed to convert Liverpool’s best chances from open play.

As a result, the draw saw Klopp side slip down to 3rd place – behind Tottenham on goal difference and 7 points adrift Chelsea.

Here is how the Merseysiders fared as their Old Trafford jinx continued.

Mignolet

Was impressive to come off his line fastest to deny Zlatan 2 clear chances, while he also made a great save to keep out the Swede’s low strike from a free kick.

Rating: 7/10

Alexander-Arnold

Proved a capable right-back cover despite a shaky start and almost gifting United a goal.

He stood up well against Martial and Mkhitaryan for a larger chunk of the 2nd half.

Rating: 7/10

Lovren

Another error should have seen the Croatian cause a goal following a sloppy back pass, but Mignolet saved his blushes.

Was solid afterwards, though, and did make a lot of attacking contributions, forcing Pogba to panic and handle the ball at one point.

Rating: 7/10

Klavan

Deputized well in Matip’s absence and rarely gave Zlatan a breathing space for the majority of the game.

Rating: 7/10

Milner

Converted his 6th spot kick of the Premier League season, and constantly tried to create chances for the forwards everytime he attacked.

Rating: 8/10

Wijnaldum

Was presented with Liverpool’s 2 best and finest chances of the day only to blast one wide and hit the other one tamely.

Rating: 6/10

Henderson

Held the midfield together but was obviously lacking fitness as he couldn’t exert his influence much more on the game’s proceedings.

Rating: 7/10

Can

An impressive display from the German who constantly tried to make something happen with his supplies anytime he got the chance.

Rating: 7/10

Firmino

Could have done much more better with the few chances he had but was nevertheless always a threat to United’s backline anytime he burst forward, leaving Herrera with no choice than to have his shirt pulled in the game’s closing minutes.

Rating: 7/10

Origi

Failed to hold on to the ball well despite his reputation and didn’t prove a better choice than Sturridge with a below-par performance.

Rating: 5/10

Lallana

Always came close to making something happen with his occasional runs and helped keep Liverpool’s attack lively as Klopp chose to play him upfront.

Rating: 7/10

SUBSTITUTES

Coutinho

Almost was an inspired sub as Liverpool became more lethal whenever they launched an attack upon his introduction, but he was far from full fitness.

Rating: 6/10
