Though an early loss to a newly promoted side in Burnley raised a lot of doubts on Liverpool’s credentials as title contenders, Jurgen Klopp has got the side playing some exciting football, making them the biggest entertainers in the league this season. With 26 points and 30 goals in 11 games, Liverpool have been on fire this season and are competing for the Premier League title for the first time in the last 3 years. They face Southampton after the international break but the manager will know that the January transfer window is looming large and will already be plotting his moves in the market. To make it easier, here are 3 players who Klopp should sell or loan out in January:
The French defender had a torrid year starting from the wrongful drug abuse charge that turned his career upside down. He missed out on a Europa League final and the EURO16 final and was frozen out of the first-team after his antics in the pre-season tour with Liverpool. Though he is back fit, Klopp has had enough of him and has already advised him to find another club in January. He is definitely going to leave in January and Liverpool are well advised to send him on loan than to off-load him completely. At 26, he is potentially a world class defender and 6 months away from Liverpool might help come back stronger and help Liverpool in their European campaign next season.
Having just come back to full training from an ACL injury he picked up early last season, the English defender is one of the most exciting prospects for Liverpool this season. He is a strong confident defender who can do wonders for Liverpool at the back but with a settled back-line and no European games, Gomez has no chance of making it into the starting lineup at the club this season. At his age, Gomez needs enough game time to keep himself at the top of his game which he will not be getting at the club. So it is best for both parties that Gomez goes out on loan for the rest of the season and will definitely come back before the next season as a better player.
The 23-year old Portuguese defender has been on the fringes of the first team at Anfield for some time now but is yet to get a consistent chance in the starting lineup in the senior side. With the likes of Lucas Leiva and Ragnar Klavan providing backup for the first choice center-backs at the club, Ilori hardly has a chance to make it to the starting lineup and at his age, it could be dangerous to stay away from regular game time. Ilori needs to be in the first team at a club and with no chance of that happening anytime soon at Anfield it will be best for both parties that they part ways. Klopp is still interested in a couple of center backs leaving the club with only one choice; sell the 23-year old in January.
