Should Liverpool Part Away With This England Star For Greater Good?

Share

Liverpool have already made a splash in the transfer market, getting two players, albeit squad members, for the new season. Although Rickie Lambert and Emre Can would not be the first choice players in the team as yet, they would increase the depth of the squad to a level which was extremely required in Liverpool to cope up with the number of matches and get ready for Champions League action.

And now Liverpool are trying hard to get a left back in the side and have targeted a few players. Sevilla left back Alberto Moreno is on the radar of Liverpool and reports say that management want him badly in the side for a long time now. But again there are a section of the media which says that Moreno deal is off and Liverpool have now dropped interests in the players and moved on. Even if that is the scenario, there are other options which Liverpool are trying hard to have in the team and as of now it looks that they will have a decent left back in their side soon.

The left back position has been the Achilles tendon for Liverpool for a long period of time. They have been unable to find a decent player in that position and the loan recruit of Aly Cissokho of Valencia at the start of the season did not prove to be useful for the Kops. Cissokho did not impress much and had to be dropped from the team after just a few matches. Their other option Jose Enrique is also nurturing an injury from a long time and is not at the peak of his form. It is now not wise for manager Brendan Rodgers to trust Enrique any more like he used to previously and go for a regular option who could uplift the quality of the side and serve the club at that position for a long time.

If Liverpool do sign a quality left back, like they are rumoured to do, he would walk straight into the team. But the irony here is that to make way for the left back, the one person who could be sacrificed is a right back. Glen Johnson would most likely be the man to be left out for the new left back position as Jon Flanagan would be moved to his original position in the right back.

In the absence of a dependable left back, Liverpool manger Brendan Rodgers has been playing young English defender Jon Flanagan as the left back. Flanagan is an extremely talented players whose primary position is the right back, but who can also do a tidy job on the opposite side of the field and Rodgers has been taking that advantage throughout this season. Flanagan has also done a very decent job in a new position and all kudos to him for that. But now is the time that the club gets regulars in their places and thus Flanagan must be shifted to the right.

To top it, Johnson’s performance has been too poor and in any case he was proving to be inadequate for the Merseyside club. It is Liverpool’s good fortune that they would not have to look for anywhere else for a right back and Flanagan can take up the job right now.
