Opinion: Should Liverpool Management Fire Rodgers If They Fail To Make It To The Top 4?

Share

Liverpool have had the wind knocked out of their sails after a couple of losses against their top 4 rivals, a season where Brendan Rodgers predicted that they would be challenging for the title and the next step of progression would be to win a trophy has petered out to almost nothing. Liverpool have 7 games left to reclaim a top 4 place, but that seems highly unlikely since they would need clubs to drop points and a lot of points.

While they are still in the FA Cup, an away game against Blackburn with Gerrard, Skrtel and Can suspended is not ideal and with Raheem Sterling seeming uninterested in giving his all for the club, Rodgers could end up being empty handed. He spent a lot of money bringing in some talent this season but that had not paid off till the second half of the season but it seems that these 2 losses in the last 2 games will have come to naught for this season, which could leave Brendan in a sticky predicament.

A new dawn, a new day?

Brendan Rodgers was brought in for a project and the 2nd season showed just what a fit and proper Liverpool team led by Rodgers could do, while people have often credited their unbelievable form to Luis Suarez, credit still must be given to Rodgers for changing formations when it was needed, remember last season when Rodgers switched to a diamond formation in midfield and teams just could not get close to their midfield.

This season has been a struggle for the club, their form has been poor but more than anything, their attack has been average. Their defense has improved since the start of the season and even their goalkeeper has become better, just proving that with time Rodgers can get things right. The problem with their attack is that while Luis Suarez was sold, he never was replaced by another striker who could guarantee 20 goals this season.

Daniel Sturridge has had a stop-start season and that has been due to many injuries, had he stayed fit, no one knows just what they could have achieved. Nevertheless, the new formation has worked for Liverpool to an extent which shows that while Rodgers isn’t the best manager out there, he does know how to deal with problems in the club.

Liverpool should not be thinking of sacking the manager, not yet, firstly he has showed what he can do with the club, last season they almost won the Premier League and played a brilliant brand of football. This season was another building block for them and if Rodgers learns from this season, that would ensure he does not make the same mistakes again.

The other reason not to sack him is that, there really is not another top level coach who could be brought in and he would ensure success from the word go. Liverpool will not have the money to overhaul the team and this would actually set them back a few more years. Liverpool should stick with this young manager for a few years more, until they achieve stability and Rodgers will learn with time and it will pay off, even Sir Alex Ferguson did not have the best of starts at his Manchester United career.
