According to reports now, it has been confirmed that ex-Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo is also a surprise candidate to become the new Liverpool boss after Brendan Rodgers was sacked. The Reds were held to a 1-1 against Everton in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park this weekend and the former Swansea City man was sacked shortly afterwards.
Another candidate to replace the recently sacked Kop boss was former Borussia Dortmund man Jurgen Klopp, who could be taking over the Anfield job though Sky Sport Italia has confirmed that Liverpool are still considering signing Di Matteo.
The 45-year-old main-man helped their league rivals Chelsea to Champions League glory in 2012 and was with Bundesliga outfit Schalke thereon. He eventually resigned from the German outfit, after they failed to qualify for Europe’s top competition, with just two wins in 10 games at the back end of the season.
An official statement by the club read as, “The search for a new manager is under way and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner.”
