Premier League giants Arsenal will now look to compete with their league rivals Liverpool in the race to sign Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illarramendi, as per recent reports in Mirror.co.uk .
The 25-year-old Spaniard is all set to leave the Bernabeu this summer and the Reds are looking to capitalize on the present situation, between the player and the club. The former Real Sociedad star has been impressive and was wanted by Kop boss Brendan Rodgers, who was looking to strengthen his squad before the transfer window closes.
Further, it was being stated by the Mundo Deportivo that the Gunners have entered the race and will make a bid to bring him to the Emirates before the Merseyside club can complete a deal for him. It was earlier being stated that new Real boss Rafael Benitez is keen to offload Illarramendi and a move to England seemed imminent. Since his move to Madrid in 2013, Illarramendi has managed to make a total of 59 appearances, scoring twice.
