SHOCKING! Agent Insists That Chelsea Signed His Client After Deadline Day

Chelsea Transfer Updates

There is no doubt that Papy Djilobodji’s sudden move to Chelsea would have been a dream come true for the 26-year-old player. However, if the Senegal international wanted to play in the Champions League, he will just have to patient at the moment. Jose Mourinho left him out the Blues’ squad for Europe’s top competition and the defender will have to be content with Premier League football and some domestic cup competitions.

There was also a doubt whether Djilobodji was actually signed by the Portuguese boss in the first place and considered Mourinho leaving him out as further evidence of this. Mouhamed Gueye, who represents the player told iGFM in Senegal that the actual reason was that the player signed after the deadline had expired.

He stated, “We’re being given this information [that he was left out] like it was some kind of sanction. But, all you need to do is look on the UEFA website to see that they expect squad lists to be registered before 11.59pm on the 31st of August.”

“The player signed on the 1st of September. Even with all the will in the world, he couldn’t have been in the squad.”

He further added, “Secondly, this list is only for the group stages. This means nothing is stopping him from featuring later on in the tournament.”

While all this is fine and it seems a valid explanation, UEFA’s official website contradicts what Mr Gueye has said and it could just be a way to keep the newly signed star away from controversy. As per UEFA’s Champions League rules on p.39: “List A has to be submitted by the following fixed deadlines: 1 September 2015 (2400 CET) for all further matches from the first match in the group stage up to and including the final.”
