Why This Serie A Midfielder Should Snub Liverpool And Join Chelsea

Share

The transfer window is right upon us, so be prepared to witness some good old bidding wars between contending teams in order to acquire the services of very desired players, and considering how overpriced players are, we could be set for another mouth watering transfer window for the selling clubs.

Even if you obviously have to play the best eleven you have on your roster, or at least, the eleven that fit the best with your playing scheme, you need to have backups for your starters, especially during the second half of the season when things get uglier and legs get tired from all that previous work.

So, contending teams would need to look to add some depth during this upcoming January transfer window if they intend to keep the pace and make a run at the title during the most difficult part of the Premier League tournament.

And a player who has been linked with several contenders over the past few weeks, especially Chelsea and Liverpool is Internazionale’s outcast Geoffrey Kondogbia, as the talented Frenchman hasn’t been an important player for the Italian side so far this season and both Blues and Reds want to bring him to their ranks in order to reinforce their center of the field.

Geoffrey hasn’t been able to make an impact at Internazionale, a struggling side which has been a complete disaster so far and that could definitely use his defensive talent. But, where could he fit the best? Where is he needed the most?

We all know the kind of player Kondogbia is from his AS Monaco stint, where he showed outstanding defensive talent with great discipline and awareness, becoming one of the most desired prospects among Europe just a couple of seasons ago.

Jurgen Klopp could use the French midfielder as he intended to use Borussia Monchengladbach’s Mahmoud Dahoud, as a backup for Jordan Henderson and/or Emre Can, or as another Centre Back like he’s been doing with Lucas Leiva.

It’s very unlikely that Kondogbia’s situation could get any better if he decides to make a move to Anfield, as Jurgen Klopp’s side is a run and gun team who needs to improve their defensive stature and centre back position instead of the defensive midfielder spot.

And, even if Antonio Conte is very unlikely to change his starting XI featuring Kondogbia’s compatriot N’ Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic, it’s very likely that he’ll have much more playing time under the Italian at Stamford Bridge, being the next man up and the first guy off the bench for the Blues.

On top of that, Kondogbia could play greatly just behind those guys as a stopper on Conte’s 3-4-3 scheme when he’s in need of more defence, as he’s done with Branislav Ivanovic when his team is struggling to lock down behind.

As we mentioned earlier, the talented lad would find it kind of difficult to be a starter on those teams, but the future seems brighter at Chelsea, where he could eventually be paired with Kante for many years to come given how Oscar and Fabregas are likely leave the Bridge in near future.
