Serie A Team Of The Week – Round 8

Share

After a rather disappointing week for Italian football in Europe, Serie A resumed with a bunch of exiting games where Napoli crushed Verona, Udinese and Lazio continued their fine domestic form and most importantly, Juventus extending their lead on Roma after the latter stalemate in Genoa, but who was this week’s top players? let’s find out:

Sergio Romero (Sampdoria): Given a rare start, he proved his worth with multiple breath taking saves, the one against Florenzi’s header especially, to earn the “Samp” a hard fought point at the “Marassi”.

Danilo Avelar (Cagliari): Excellent showing for the Brazilian, a key player in Zeman’s  “all attack” football, always on the attack , which led to two goals from the goal fest at Empoli.

Andrea Balzano (Cagliari): As Avelar, Balzano owned his flank the right one, and was one of the protagonists of the big results against Empoli.

Francesco Acerbi (Sassuolo): Emotional showing for the “Neroverde” defender, as he marked his return from the Cancer battle with a remarkable defensive showing & topped it with a goal, to help his team continue their positive run.

Gonzalo Rodriguez (Fiorentina): A rock in the back, whether it’s Menez or Torres, he always kept firm and knew how to deal with the danger with calmness & experience.

Ignazio Abate (AC Milan): Dealt well with the danger of the Fiorentina speeds on the attack & always providing a helping hand in the attacking department as well.

Lucas Biglia (Lazio): The mastermind of the “Laziali”, put his stamp on every ball and led the midfield by example , scoring his team opening as well.

Saphir Taider (Sassoulo): The Algerian’s best game in over a year, very active and his heat map almost covered the whole field in the “Tardini”.

Marek Hamsik (Napoli): Finally the old Hamsik is back! Scored twice & linked well with Callejon & Higauin to destroy Verona at the “San Paolo”.

Gonzalo Higauin (Napoli): Was in his absolute best against Verona, contributing with a hatrick and gave Moras & Marques a nightmarish night!

Antonio Di Natale (Udinese): Scored a beauty with a well curled shot & was the best among an ever green Udinese team that kept their excellent start of the season going.

Honorable mentions: Samir Handanovic & Mateo Kovacic (Inter), Alessio Romagnoli (Sampdoria), Marco Sau & Albin Ekdal (Cagliari), Radja Nainggolan (Roma), Alessandro Matri (Genoa) & Federico Agliardi (Cesena).
