“Seen the light. It really is Sterling FC” – Manchester City Fans Lose The Plot After The 2-1 Win Over Huddersfield Town + Player Ratings

Manchester City continued on their winning ways, when they defeated Huddersfield Town 2-1 at the John Smith stadium, on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola’s side have been in rampant form this season and controlled most of the first-half, but went into the break a goal down, as a Nicolas Otamendi own goal handed the Terriers the lead against the run of play. However, City were back on level terms just two minutes after the break, as Sergio Aguero converted from the penalty spot, after Raheem Sterling was fouled by Scott Malone.

The Sky Blues piled the pressure from thereon, looking for a winner and the pressure paid off late in the game as Sterling scored the winning goal with six minutes left on the clock.

The win means City extend their lead to eight points at the top of the Premier League and have dropped just two points after 13 games, which is a record. Here’s how the City players fared on the day;

Manchester City Player Ratings

Ederson – 6/10

Had very little to do in terms of the normal goalkeeping duties. Distributed the ball excellently throughout.

Kyle Walker – 6/10

Offered a lot of width down the right-side and spent most of the time in the attacking half of the pitch. However, the end product wasn’t always convincing.

Vincent Kompany – 7/10

Was a solid presence in the heart of the defence, making a number of strong tackles throughout. Taken off late as City searched for a winner.

Nicolas Otamendi – 7/10

Couldn’t do a lot about the own goal he scored, but carried the ball out defensively very well and offered an extra body in the midfield as a result.

Fabian Delph – 6/10

Hardly made any impact going forward, but defended resolutely when the Terriers seemed to ask some questions of him.

Kevin De Bruyne – 6/10

Struggled to exert the usual level of dominance that he usually does. Lost Christopher Schindler easily in the lead up to Huddersfield’s goal.

Fernandinho – 6/10

Handed a yellow card for simulation. Held things together well in the middle of the park, adding the element of physicality with simple and accurate passing.

David Silva – 7.5/10

The Spaniard was pure class for the initial few minutes in the first period and was involved in the positive moments for the Citizens in the second period as well.

Raheem Sterling – 8/10

Was once again City’s saviour, grabbing the late winner to add to his growing tally of goals – has 12 already for the season. Had won the penalty for the opening goal as well.

Sergio Aguero – 6.5/10

Wasn’t always involved and missed a chance in the first period. But stepped up to convert the penalty to level things up.

Leroy Sane – 6/10

Hit the post from a free-kick. Tried to cause problems but things didn’t work for him in the attacking third.

Substitutes

Gabriel Jesus – 6/10

Caused some issues for the home side’s defence and played a role in the winner.

Ilkay Gundogan – N/A

Replaced Aguero in the 86th minute.

Eliaquim Mangala – N/A

On for Silva in the 89th minute.
