“2 treble seasons in a row let’s gooooooo” – Celtic Fans Celebrate League Cup Triumph + Player Ratings

Celtic won their fourth consecutive trophy under Brendan Rodgers, when they defeated Motherwell 2-0 in the finals of the Scottish League Cup at the Hampden Park, on Sunday.

The Bhoys struggled to create any clear opening in the final third despite getting into some good positions in the opening 45 minutes. But, only four minutes into the second period James Forrest handed them the lead with a coolly slotted left-footed finish, before Moussa Dembele converted from the penalty spot eleven minutes later, after Scott Sinclair was felled in the box by Cedric Kipre.

Here’s how the Celtic players fared on the day enroute to adding another trophy to their collection, on Saturday;

Celtic Player Ratings

Craig Gordon – 7/10

Made a couple of very important saves on either side of the half-time to deny Louis Moult from scoring.

Mikael Lustig – 6/10

Got forward well in support of Forrest, but there were some uncharacteristically sloppy passes throughout the game.

Jozo Simunovic – 6.5/10

The defender enjoyed a fairly comfortable evening in the heart of the defence as Celtic won the trophy with the clean sheet intact.

Dedryck Boyata – 6.5/10

Rarely had any major trouble to deal with in the game. Played out of the back comfortably.

Kieran Tierney – 7.5/10

The 20-year old was a huge threat going forward all game long, while being safe and sound defensively.

Scott Brown – 7/10

Dominated the proceedings in the middle of the park, helping his team to stay on the front foot always.

Stuart Armstrong – 6.5/10

Drove forward at the Motherwell defence at every possible occasion. Fired a shot over the bar from a promising position.

James Forrest – 8/10

Was a major threat all game long down the right-hand side with a number of darting runs, before opening the scoring in the second period.

Callum McGregor – 7/10

Kept things ticking in the middle with some nice passes and touches. Was outnumbered by the opposition on occasions, due to which he failed to have a telling impact though.

Scott Sinclair – 5/10

Was anonymous for large parts of the game, until he won the penalty in the second half that Dembele converted.

Moussa Dembele – 7.5/10

Missed a couple of headed efforts, but made it count from the penalty spot when called upon. Worked hard off the ball.

Substitutes

Leigh Griffiths – 6/10

Replaced Dembele with 25 minutes left to play. Hit the post after rounding the keeper and missed another chance.

Patrick Roberts – 7/10

On for Forrest for the final 15 minutes or so and was a nuisance in his short spell. Forced a save from the keeper and sent in a brilliant ball which Griffiths failed to convert.

Tom Rogic – N/A

Late sub for McGregor.
