Liverpool have been linked with a summer move for Ajax teenager Viktor Fischer in a possible £15m move. The former FC Midtjylland youth product moved to Ajax in the summer of 2011 and has since then been impressive for the Dutch giants.
Fischer has always been regarded as one of the best of Danish talents of his generation and his superb technique, great movement and passionate approach to the game have caught the eye of many a scout. Before he decided to join Ajax, he reportedly had trials at Manchester City, Chelsea and Inter Milan, but the presence of compatriots Chrisitan Eriksen and Nicolai Boilesen swung the decision in the Amsterdam club’s favor.
Fischer like so many of the Ajax academy graduates before him is a technically gifted player who is really effective in finding the back of the net. The Dane has a great ability of creating space for himself and his teammates due to his excellent movement. He possesses a good footballing brain which he uses to float between the lines in order to create the space.
In terms of his favored position, Fischer is a wide playmaker who can also play as a deep-lying forward. Ajax employ a similar flexible 4-3-3 system to the one Liverpool employ, which involves a lot of lots of positional interchange and movement. Fischer is at home in that formation and hence he should face relatively less problems adapting to Liverpool’s. Fischer’s composure is great for someone so young, and according to may scouts, it is one of his biggest strengths.
Fischer loves to dribble past players and while that is one of his strengths, it is also one of his weaknesses. He seems to take on defenders far too often in spite of passing options being open which results in loss of possession. Even when he loses the ball, he can be reluctant to chase back at times and he seems to be a bit slow for the level he’s playing at. However, the 19 year old is still learning his trade and these aren’t problems that can be ironed out with the proper guidance.
Fischer is willing to learn and looks to improve constantly which means that he’s willing to work on his game. He is also looking to critically analyses his own game and that can only stand him in good stead going forward. Having a level head helps, and Fischer is still a humble youngster who’s privileged to be a part of one of the best academies in world football.
If the move to Liverpool does happen in the summer, he will not be asked to step up immediately and will be given time to adapt to the surroundings and his team mates. Given his technical ability and willingness to learn, it is unlikely that he will not be able to adapt to the rigors of Premier League football, and at Liverpool, he will have the chance to learn from some of the best in the world.
