Scouting For Klopp – Should Liverpool Break The Bank To Sign This £50million Guinea National?

Why Liverpool Should Break The Bank To Sign Naby Keita This Summer

For just the second time in the last 7 years, Liverpool managed to finish in the top-4 come end of the season and managed to qualify for the Champions League. This has seen them linked with some of the best players in Europe at the moment and the latest name that is constantly doing the rounds at Anfield is RB Leipzig midfielder, Naby Keita.

Over the weekend, almost every English news outfit had run a story on how Klopp is ready to splash the cash this summer and how Naby Keita is his top transfer target. Most reports suggest that Keita will cost up to £50million (Mirror) for a move to Anfield this summer. Klopp seems ready to spend big bucks but is Keita what Liverpool need this summer?

Liverpool will have to break their transfer record to land the Leipzig midfielder, who was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season. There are a number of star players around Europe that Klopp can target at a similar or a lesser price but the fact that he is still looking at Keita tells us a lot about the player’s ability.

Born and brought up in Guinea, Keita made his international debut as a teenager and was a regular for Red Bull Salzburg until 2016. His services for the club saw Leipzig lure him away and Keita showed no nervousness playing in German top flight for the first time.

He soon established himself as the first choice for the Bundesliga outfit and was in impeccable form, helping Leipzig to the Champions League next season. A defensive midfielder by trait, Keita is just the kind of a player Liverpool are looking for.

He is not a Kante and will not give a mountain of support in front of the back four but he is more than capable of shutting shop at the back when needed. A player with superb dribbling and passing skills, Keita is a tricky customer to handle in the middle of the park and playing as the deepest midfielder, he adds loads of creativity to any side he plays for.

Liverpool have to use Emre Can or Jordan Henderson in this position and though Keita is relatively unproven, his attributes make him a slightly better option than the ones in the current squad.

He is happy to do the dirty work but he may be a liability against top class sides where Liverpool need a genuine CDM to keep the attackers at bay. But in general, Keita’s addition to this Liverpool side might turn them into a more exciting unit.

At around £50m, he is expected to be a starter for Liverpool but do you think he will excel in his first season in England?
