Scout Report: Meet The Dutch Star, Who Could Be The Perfect Replacement For The Outgoing Spaniard At Manchester United

Manchester United seem set to lose out on David de Gea, the Spanish number one seems set to leave Old Trafford for Real Madrid, the club from Spain could be willing to throw in a player plus cash deal to sign the talented goalkeeper and that would leave Manchester United with a huge void to fill in this season.

The club did sign Victor Valdes as cover for De Gea last season and the Spaniard did make a few appearances for Manchester United at the end of last season but he isn’t the goalkeeper for the future of United. They need someone who is young and can get better while playing at the club; they could have the answers in a Dutchman, Louis Van Gaal’s goalkeeper for the national side, Jasper Cillessen from Ajax.

From Ajax to Manchester United

Everyone remembers when Louis Van Gaal replaced Cillessen with Krul in the quarter-final of the World Cup, that move worked well but didn’t help the confidence of the young goalkeeper. The 26-year-old had spent most of his youth career at NEC and made his debut for the team in 2010. Just next year he was purchased by power house Ajax and has become their number one goalkeeper.

Cillessen, a three-time Eredivisie winner is known for his excellent shot stopping ability and is great on one-on-ones. The goalkeeper also is extremely agile and has some great reflexes which makes him a difficult keeper to beat. He is quick on his feet and can move between the posts really quickly as well.

However, there are a few problems with his game, he isn’t the most comfortable with the ball at his feet and can be caught out if he is put under a lot of pressure. Also, the youngster isn’t the best at penalties but that should not be the bigger concern, he does have a slight frame similar to when De Gea came to Manchester United and would need some beefing up if he is to survive in the Premier League.

Cillessen, nevertheless would be a great addition to the team, he does need some work before he can reach the heights that De Gea achieved last season for the club from Manchester. Having a mentor like Louis Van Gaal as the manager can help the youngster out as well, there is a growing Dutch influence in the squad with Blind, Van Persie and the newly signed Depay, all set to star for the club this season and Cillessen could be the next Dutch star to make it big into the new looking Manchester United.
