Liverpool 5-1 Arsenal: Red-hot Reds humiliate the Gunners at Anfield

Liverpool continued their charge in the league with a resounding 5-1 win over Arsenal at Anfield this evening. Roberto Firmino scored a hattrick, which was backed up by goals from Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to seal a routine win over the Gunners.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles did put the away side ahead in the 11th-minute, after a sloppy pass from Dejan Lovren allowed the possession to be turned over. Alex Iwobi then got a chance to run at the Reds defence and deliver a good cross for Maitland-Niles to tap in at the far post.

Jurgen Klopp’s men equalised two minutes later after a mishap among the Arsenal defenders allowed Firmino to tap in. The Brazilian then went on a mazy run two minutes later, floored both Gunners centre-backs and scored his second of the evening. Sadio Mane did well in the build-up to steal the ball off Lucas Torreira.

The home side went 3-1 win up when Unai Emery’s side failed to keep Mohamed Salah offside in the second phase of a corner. A long ball from Andy Robertson found the Egyptian onside, who just squared it for Mane to score.

Salah then won and scored a penalty, given away by Sokratis at the stroke of half-time. Sead Kolasinac gave away another spot-kick in the midway point of the second half and Firmino then fulfilled the chance to complete his hattrick.

This win puts Liverpool nine points clear of Tottenham at the top of the table, ten clear of Manchester City who have a game in hand.
