Revealed: Liverpool Were Almost Sold To A Rich Kid Who Needed Psychiatric Treatment

Liverpool’s former owner George Gillett and Tom Hicks are fighting a Legal battle against the finance company Mill. According to the Echo, Mill is seeking compensation from Gillett and the Royal Bank of Scotland.

According to the Paper, Gillett is still paying a £125,000 debt to Mill every month for a £50m pound loan he took to cover the debts from owning Liverpool. Fenway Sports Group won the race to buy Liverpool at £295m following a court case from the side of RBS after Gillett and Hicks were unable to pay the £280m debt secured against Liverpool.

Mill started the legal action against Gillett and Royal Bank of Scotland in 2010 November and both believe that the club was sold cheap to the Fenway Sports Group earlier known as New England Sports Ventures.

While during the whole fiasco, Liverpool was nearly sold to a young Millionaire from UAE, who was an avid fan of the Reds so much so that every time the Reds lost he would have to seek Psychiatric help to get over it.

Under questioning from lawyers for RBS, Gillett listed a number of potential buyers or financial institutions who he claims were interested in buying the Reds or helping refinance the £285m debt he and fellow ex-owner Tom Hicks owed to RBS.

He listed: “Muse, Larry Stroll, Goldman Sachs, Lazard, Freeman Billings & Ramsey, Steel Partners, Mr Kirdi (who represented a rich family from the United Arab Emirate state of Sharjah, Keith Harris, and Peter Kenyon.

“And one or two others that I can’t recall.”

After a discussion he asked to add another bidder to the list: “[There was] a young man from the Middle East whom I met with a number of times who, as he was making an offer, his father died and the family estate went into probate and it was tied up and they didn’t get out until after.

“[He] was an avid fan [who] has his own beautifully equipped tent, which I saw, that had a channel exclusively for Liverpool and an appointment every Monday with a psychiatrist if Liverpool lost, and he was from one of the wealthiest families in the world and he was dead serious, and then his father passed away.”
