Former Chelsea golden striker Didier Drogba is now part of the Montreal Impact Club. Didier Drogba who is now thirty-seven years young part his ways with Chelsea (Stamford Bridge) after the 2014-2015 Premier League Season, after featuring in  381 games for The Blues.

During his career at Stamford Bridge, Didier Drogba won 4 Premier League titles in two stints with the London-based club. Drogba has featured heavily on Ivory Coast’s national team.

Other than being the national team’s all-time top goal scorer, Drogba has helped the team feature in World Cup appearances. Drogba’s scoring record for Ivory Coast’s national team stands at sixty-five goals in a hundred and five international appearances.

Joey Saputo, the current Montreal Impact president, was jubilant with the signing indicating that signing the Ivorian player in their team is a historical event for the club. Joey Saputo added that he alongside the management are honored to be welcoming Drogba to MLS as one of their main players.

In an interview, Club President Joey Saputo stated that from the initial conversation he had with Didier Drogba, he felt that the former Blues player wanted to sign up with Montreal Impact. Additionally, Drogba’s arrival to the club is beneficial to the club in every major way.

Moreover, Didier Drogba will become the Canadian side designated player, a position that dictates that his salary won’t be affected by the MLS salary cap. The news of signing Drogba for the club has been met with jubilation as fans and team players are eager to jump from the last team in the MLS league table.

Drogba’s Stint at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea FC released Thirty-seven year old Didier Drogba during the close of the 2014-2015 Premiership League. His contract expired last season, thus marking his nine-year association with the English club.

Montreal Impact’s technical director Adam Braz noted how the whole team and management of the club was thrilled to bag into their fold an experienced player. Besides, his experience in the soccer World Cup and various European Leagues will help the club perform better in the season.

Adam adds that Didier Drogba’s stint in Europe has proved that he is a high-level player with an instinct in front of the goal. Drogba’s leadership and experience are major points that will help the Canadian Club.

Drogba’s World Famous Goal

Of the 381 goals Drogba netted for Chelsea, one particular goal stands out; the late equalizer that he put on the goal line during the Champions League final. The game was between The Blues and German club Bayern Munich.
