Real Madrid’s José Rodríguez Made History Last Night

José Rodríguez Martínez made his Real Madrid debut last night in a 4-1 victory against Ajax. Rodriguez made history, becoming Real Madrid’s youngest ever player in feature in the European Cup, in the club’s history.

At just 17 years old and 354 days, the starlet surpasses Madrid legend Raul’s European debut at 18 years, two months and 17 days, AND Iker Casillas’ first outing in the Champions League at 18 years, three months and 26 days.

The young midfielder came on in the 72nd minute to replace Kaka. In the history of the competition, Celestine Babayaro was the youngest ever debutante. He turned out for Anderlecht at 16 years and 87 days. But as for Jose Rodriguez… being included in a list that Raul and Casillas – two of the club’s most famous canteranos – are on, is not a bad sign of what could be ahead for this young man.

The youngster thanked his coach Mourinho for keeping faith in him to give a chance in the first team,

“The Coach is always with us,” he told reporters after the game. “And I want to thank him. I am really happy to make my Champions League debut.

“I am always working for whenever the Coach wants to use me.”
