Llorente Out, McBurnie In – Strongest 4-3-3 Swansea City Lineup To Face Southampton

Predicted Swansea City Lineup To Face Southampton On The Opening Day

Swansea City will start off their 2017/18 Premier League campaign with an away game at the St. Mary’s where they will take on Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

The Welsh club managed to stave off relegation last season, thanks to a late revival under manager Paul Clement, finishing 15th in the league. They will be intent on avoiding a repeat of the same situation this time around. There have been no major investment in the transfer market, but a couple of key additions have been made to the squad as Clement goes about building a team to put up a better fight.

Team News

The Swans will be without star striker Fernando Llorente, while Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham is also a doubt after picking up an injury in their final friendly against Sampdoria. Winger Nathan Dyer and midfielder Ki Sung-Yeung are out until next month.

Here is how Swansea could line up against Southampton on Saturday:

Manager: Paul Clement

Formation: 4-3-3

Lukasz Fabianski (GK)

The Polish shot stopper was an unsung hero towards the end of last season, playing a vital role in the Swans’ staying up. A certain starter.

Kyle Naughton (RB)

The former Tottenham man will man the right-side of the defence ahead of the ageing Angel Rangel. Needs to perform consistently.

Alfie Mawson

Federico Fernandez (CB)

The Argentine centre-back is coming on the back of a strong season and had a decent pre-season as well. Scored a goal against Sampdoria last week. Should start ahead of Mike Van der Hoorn.

Alfie Mawson (CB)

The 23-year old had a very impressive season for the Swans last time around and will look to continue in a similar fashion this time around as well.

Martin Olsson (LB)

The Swede arrived in January this year and has made the left-back position his own. A definite starter against the Saints.

Roque Mesa (DM)

The summer signing from La Liga side Las Palmas, Mesa has been used extensively in the pre-season in the holding midfield role. Could start ahead of club captain Leon Britton.

Tom Carroll left Tottenham to join Swansea.
Tom Carroll

Leroy Fer (CM)

Scored in the 4-0 win over Sampdoria last week. Provides the drive and the energy in the middle of the park. Sure to get the nod against Southampton.

Tom Carroll (CM)

The former Tottenham man has made a great impact in his short time at the Liberty Stadium. His ability to hit accurate crosses into the box is a big asset.

Jordan Ayew (RW)

The Ghanaian will start on the right-hand side of the attack, ahead of Luciano Narsingh. Works really hard, but will have to start delivering goals as well.

Oliver McBurnie (ST)

With Fernando Llorente definitely out and Tammy Abraham also doubtful, Clement will have no option but to start the 21-year old Oliver McBurnie.

Wayne Routledge (LW)

We expect the left-flank to be occupied by Wayne Routledge. The 32-year old has had a decent pre-season and will look to start the season on a strong note.

Here’s how they could take the field:
