Pochettino should find a way for Tottenham to beat Arsenal in pursuit of this £27.3m Serie A sensation

Tottenham opinion: Why Spurs should sign Steven N’Zonzi from AS Roma?

According to CalcioMercato, Tottenham are set to battle North London rivals Arsenal for the signature of Steven N’Zonzi. The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Frenchman since the arrival of Unai Emery, who worked with N’Zonzi at Sevilla.

Arsenal’s chances of getting N’Zonzi have improved, according to the report, as Roma’s technical director Monchi is close to joining the Gunners as their new director of football.

Monchi worked closely with Unai Emery during his time at Sevilla and the duo are set to work together again. Monchi bought the Frenchman to both Sevilla and Roma and is expected to bring him to Arsenal too but Tottenham should make a move for the Frenchman in the summer.

Spurs have been forced to use Harry Winks in the defensive midfielder role due to the injury to Victor Wanyama. Although Wanyama has returned to full fitness, the Kenyan is down the pecking order with both Eric Dier and Winks above him. N’Zonzi will fit into Tottenham’s midfield brilliantly and Tottenham should move in for the former Stoke City man.

After 3 years with La Liga side Sevilla, Steven N’Zonzi joined AS Roma at the start of this season for a fee of £27.3 million. The 30-year-old has been a regular for Roma this campaign having missed just 4 games in the Serie A all season.

N’Zonzi is a tall, strong and well built midfielder who dominates the centre of the park with his technique and aerial ability. The Frenchman despite his size is relatively quick and is a brilliant reader of the game. N’Zonzi also has a jackhammer of a right foot and is capable of scoring from distance.

The French World Cup winner has averaged 2.1 tackles and 2 clearances per game so far this season. N’Zonzi also boasts of a brilliant career average of 1.2 interceptions, 1.5 clearances and an incredible 3.2 successful aerial duels per 90 mins.

N’Zonzi is also capable of delivering a good ball and averages 3.2 long passes every game so far this term with an overall passing accuracy of over 88%. The Frenchman has scored once and has assisted twice so far in the Serie A this season.

N’Zonzi will fit in brilliantly in Mauricio Pochettino’s system and could prove to be the missing piece in the jigsaw for Tottenham. His dominance in the midfield and the ability to play a part in the transition from defense to attack will take Tottenham’s overall team play to the next level.

Conclusion:

Spurs moving in for Steven N’Zonzi is a no brainer as the midfielder will bring in quality, composure, and leadership to Pochettino’s midfield. N’Zonzi’s burly physique and previous Premier League experience with Blackburn Rovers and Stoke City will help him settle in no time and Spurs should move in before Arsenal to seal the deal.
