(PICTURE) Why Arsenal Signed Calum Chambers? Revealed

After signing Calum Chambers from Southampton, Arsene Wenger said,

“He can play at centre-back, right-back and central midfield. I hope he will give us competition for the players in these three positions,” Wenger said.

“He hasn’t played many games, no, but the English players on the market in England are very expensive and at the end of the day I was ready to take a gamble because he is a player for the future.”

Usually, Arsenal are very calculative when it comes to signing youngsters for future. Calum Chamber had a good pre-season and it looks like this gamble will pay huge dividends in future.

This (see below) extract from a book named “The Nowhere Men” (a book about football scouting) published on 2012 shows why Arsenal took this gamble. Here is a brief opinion from ex-Arsenal youth coach and former West Ham player Pat Holland about Calum Chambers.
