Phil Jones And Luis Suarez Features In The Premier League Team Of The Week

Gameweek 11 of the Barclays Premier League provided more thrilling actions than any other week so far with drastic changes both in the top and bottom half of the table. Although Arsenal have managed to stay at the top of the table, their lead has been cut down to just two points after a 1-0 loss at the hands of Manchester United who are now at 5th place 5 points adrift of the Gunners.

Luis Suarez scored a brace as Liverpool thrashed Fulham and Sunderland received a massive boost in their early relegation fears after a grueling match against Manchester City which ended in favour of the Black Cats. Meanwhile Tottenham and Chelsea continued to struggle, dropping crucial points against Newcastle and West Brom.

Goalkeeper – Tim Krul (New Castle)

What more can you ask from a goalkeeper? A clean sheets courtesy of 14 incredible saves to deny Tottenham at White Hart Lane.

Defence – Phil Bardsley (Sunderland)

The former Manchester United player scored the winner against Manchester City. Bardsley who has had a torrid time in the past couple of seasons, has reinvented his career under new boss Guys Poyet.

Defence – Phil Jones (Manchester United)

Finds himself in the line-up ahead of Sunderland’s Wes Brown and Liverpool’s Martin Skrtel mainly because of his dual role. The England International started in the midfield against Arsenal but Vidic’ injury at the end of the first half meant that he had to play at the back which he did with immense maturity and contained the Gunners who failed to score for the first time in the league this season.

Defence – Chris Smalling (Manchester United)

A make shift full-back due to Rafael’s injury, yet Smalling did a very good job.

Midfield – Robert Snodgrass (Norwich)

Norwich needed to come from behind to take all three points against West Ham on Saturday. Although Hooper scored the equalizing goal for the Canaries, it was Snodgrass’ brilliant free kick which set the tone for the rest of the game.

Midfield – Steven Gerrard (Liverpool)

Outclassed and outplayed against Arsenal, the Liverpool captain came-back with a stunning performance against Fulham in front of the Anfield faithful and managed to provide two assists.

Midfield  – Adam Lallana (Southampton)

What a season the Saints are having and what a season Lallana is having. The English midfielder scored a goal and knocked up an assist in Southampton’s 4-1 thrashing of Hull City.

Midfield – Stephane Sessegnon (West Bromwich Albion)

Sessegnon‘s second half goal almost secured  a famous victory for West Brom against Chelsea, but the Baggies was robbed off two points thanks to a blatant dive from Ramires in the dying seconds of the game.

Forwards – Luis Suarez (Liverpool)

The name speaks for itself. Nothing much to say here, a superb performance capped by his brace and an assist against a depleted Fulham side.

Forwards – Rickie Lambert (Southampton)

Lambert is starting to do justice for his International call.  A breath taking performance from the England International.

Forwards – Wilfried Bony (Swansea)

Swansea entertained Stoke City in a 6 goal thriller and Bony was instrumental in the Welsh side’ come back after Stoke had took a healthy 2-0 lead in the first half.
