Why Chelsea Will Not Win The Premier League Again This Season

Chelsea started the new season of the Premier League by losing the Community Shield 1-0 to Arsenal. A goal by Alex-Oxlade Chamberlain gave Arsene Wenger his first win over Jose Mourinho and a boost for the Gunners before the first game of the Premier League season next week.

Chelsea did have a few chances to score a goal, Eden Hazard came the closest but missed the target when through on goal, Chelsea also gave Radamel Falcao a chance to get on the score-sheet but the Colombian still looked rusty and Loic Remy was caught offside more often than expected.

The league is less than a week away, but Chelsea look like a ship without any direction at the moment, normally it is expected for the Champions to strengthen the team before the start of the season but so far, Chelsea haven’t done much of rebuilding or strengthening their squad. Sure, they had a great team last season but this season every other team has also brought in reinforcements and that could be the undoing of Chelsea this year.

Liverpool and Manchester United have completely revamped their squads while they might not be direct rivals for the title, they could give clubs a run for their money at least in the race for the top four. The biggest threat to Chelsea for the Premier League title would be Arsenal, simply because they have one of the strongest teams in the league and brought in the experienced goalkeeper Petr Cech.

While Cech would provide some stability at the back for the Gunners, the chance of having a fully fit team would be a great boost for Arsenal. Chelsea don’t have the biggest squad in the league, neither do they have the strongest team as they let go of Filipe Luis this season and Petr Cech as well, Asmir Begovic though is a great replacement for the now Gunner goalkeeper but Chelsea could face issues in the goal scoring department.

We saw in this game how they would struggle without Diego Costa and the likes of Remy or Falcao don’t seem to be good enough to be playing for the Blues. Falcao might be the option for Didier Drogba but he needs to work a lot on his movement and fitness if he is to be considered a threat in front of goal, the same goes for Remy, he isn’t the best option to play up front and this could be the greatest undoing for the club.

Chelsea still have a few more days before the end of the transfer window and unless they get in a few more players, it could be a tough season for the Blues and the Premier League crown could be travelling to another team in the city.
