3 Things We Learned From The Community Shield (Arsenal 1 Chelsea 0): Could This Be Arsenal’s Year?

Arsenal 1 Chelsea 0: 3 Things We Learned From The Game

Arsenal finally did it, or at least Arsene Wenger did, he finally won against Jose Mourinho and this was the first goal that Arsenal had scored against Chelsea since the Portuguese came back to his beloved Chelsea.

The Gunners won the Community Shield thanks to a solitary goal by Oxlade-Chamberlain and that would give them a great lift for the Premier League campaign which beings in less than a week’s time. Though the Community Shield is essentially a friendly, this is a great gauge as to how the teams are set up for the season. We look back at the Community Shield and list three things that stood out.

1. Petr Cech is a beast in goal

The save from the Oscar free-kick was quite special but more importantly, it showed that Arsene Wenger is ready to make some tough decisions regarding his team. Wenger seems to have decided that Ospina is not good enough to be the number 1 at Arsenal at the moment and Cech’s capture can be seen as one of the best purchases made by Arsene in the last few years. Calm, composed and a great goalkeeper, could Cech be the missing player in Arsenal’s quest for Premier League glory?
