Arsenal seem to have made the big move they wanted all summer, the signing of Petr Cech is to be announced soon. Chelsea are willing to let him go to a rival team thanks to the dominance of Thibaut Courtois and Cech would certainly be an upgrade compared to Ospina and Sczcesny.
The Czech goalkeeper is one of the best goalkeepers in the world and at 33, he still has a few good years left in him to win more trophies with another team in London. This signing would solve one of the major headaches that Arsenal fans had to deal with last season and that is a step in the right direction for Arsenal.
Arsenal fans though should not be jumping for joy when they do sign Cech, he might be one of the best goalkeepers but just signing him is not a guarantee that you would be winning the title. The Gunners still need to improve a couple of areas in the team before they can be considered true Premier League contenders.
Defence and midfielders needed ASAP
Well not really midfielders but Arsenal do need a good defensive cover for the midfield, they only have Francis Coquelin who is a good defensive midfielder while Flamini is injured too often and is about to run out on his legs, as seen a few times last season. Arsenal have been linked with a lot of defensive midfielders including William Carvalho and until they get someone who can provide a cover to the defence and help launch attacks from the midfield, they will always be short of being Premier League contenders.
They also need to work on their central defence, the likes of Mertesacker and Chambers have not been great for the club, especially last season. They were really lucky to have Koscielny playing out of his skin and Gabriel adjusting amazingly well to the Premier League so fast. The fact is that Arsenal still need to invest in their defence and the sooner they get a central defender who is world class into their team the better the chance they would have of winning the Premier League.
Arsenal would certainly be a better side with Cech manning the goalkeeping position but that would not be enough for them to win the league, Arsene Wenger knows that he needs to work on a couple of other positions and this transfer window could be something big for Arsenal as they are just a couple of pieces away from really going all out for the Premier League title and having a real chance of winning it.
