Nugent To Lead The Line – Strongest 4-2-3-1 Derby County Line-up To Face Sheffield Wednesday

Derby County

Predicted Derby County Line-up To Face Sheffield Wednesday In The EFL Championship

Derby County have been looking more solid of late, though clearly not spectacular, until they won their bitter derby against Nottingham Forest last time out.

Gary Rowett’s tried and tested 4-2-3-1 formation was once again in evidence when goals from central figures Matej Vydra and David Nugent won the day against the Tricky Trees and it’ll be a surprise if the same tactics weren’t employed at Pride Park once more.

Sheffield Wednesday don’t appear to be quite the same force they were last season, at least just yet, and so may struggle against a fairly well organised Derby set-up featuring perhaps the following players:

Formation: 4-2-3-1

Manager: Gary Rowett

GK – Scott Carson

One of so many players to have been lauded as potential England No.1, only to not make it at international level. He has sometimes been harshly treated in the media in the past but he remains solid in goal.

Andre Wisdom

RB – Andre Wisdom

The ex-Liverpool man has been an adequate replacement for the departed Cyrus Christie, who may now feel as though he has left for better things at Boro.

CB – Richard Keogh

Still solid at the back, Keogh has struck up a good partnership with Curtis Davies and the two will be crucial if Debry are to achieve a play-off place.

CB – Curtis Davies

The centre-back was critical of Hull City upon leaving them for the Rams, but so far he probably won’t feel as though his career has moved forward.  He retains plenty of ability though and would not be out of place in the top six of this division.

LB – Craig Forsyth

The Scot can start again at the back in what should be an unchanged defensive line-up.

Tom Huddlestone

CM – Tom Huddlestone

Another player to make the move from Hull in the summer, Huddlestone knows this place well and is comfortable in this formation.

CM – Joe Ledley

The ex-Celtic man adds plenty of experience to the midfield area and works well with Huddlestone in sitting in front of Derby’s back four.

RW – Johnny Russell

No Tom Ince perhaps, but Russell is performing well on this side and is likely to be given the chance to start again.

Matej Vydra (right)

CAM – Matej Vydra

The former Watford player always has the look of a player about to explode into form and so his goal against Nottingham Forest guarantees his place here.

LW – Tom Lawrence

Last season’s performances on loan at Ipswich showed him to be one of the better players in this division and so he remains the danger man to sides coming to Derby.

ST – David Nugent

Chris Martin will push for a recall, but Nugent’s goal last week was vital and he may be afforded another start up front.
