Ryan Tunnicliffe may not be a household name yet in the world of football. But he is a well known youngster among the United fans, who considered him along with Paul Pogba and Ravel Morrison as the core of next Golden generation from the Manchester United academy
While Paul Pogba and Morrison have left United much to the displeasure of Sir Alex, Tunnicliffe has proven to be a true Red Devil at heart and has committed himself to the club unlike his peers. Ryan has accepted the competition for places at United and has decided to fight his way into the first team squad. The midfielder who made his debut for United recently during the DHL pre season tour was on the score sheet for the club in yesterday’s 6-2 win over Market Drayton in a friendly match.
When speaking to Inside United about the situation of being the only one left from the once famous trio along with Pogba and Morrison he had these words to say – “They were good players playing in my position so one of us might have made it and another one might have not. So with them gone, it does open it up for me in a way but, obviously, I was close to them. We were midfield partners and good friends. I was sad to see Paul go and I do think he was a great player and could have made it here as well. But another door opens and it goes both ways.”
The lad seems to have the positive attitude which Sir Alex always expects but also is totally focused on the challenge ahead after the departure of Park Ji Sung and Darron Gibson from United. Talking about the competition for places due to the above mentioned departures, Tunnicliffe added – “But we’ve still got Larnell Cole and Jesse Lingard, who are doing very well as well, and people who are younger than me and have got me looking over my shoulder as well as looking forward.
“There is a gap but I think there are still plenty of good players in the squad that I’ve got to get past to even get a few games this year.”
Sir Alex is a keen observer of youngsters attitude before letting them play for the first team and with the cautious yet confident approach Ryan Tunnicliffe may succeed to do what Paul Pogba and Ravel Morrison couldn’t i.e. be a first team regular for United.
