Liverpool Beat Spurs – Is This A New Beginning?

Share

Captain fantastic Steven Gerrard scored the winning penalty to end Tottenham’s 12 match unbeaten run in the league in a breath taking game at Anfield yesterday. As a part time Liverpool fan, here is my view on the game,

“Troubled times are here, as we knew that they would come
Not because of the situation, just because life in general is not always fun
But we can over come them, together we must” – Tanya M. DeVeer

Improved? Yes.

Even though this season is like a roller coaster ride with a Gothic touch of fire and flowers for us, it is hard to unnotice team’s improvement under Brendon Rodger’s charming aura. Yes. We still miss something to make us league challengers, but the infinite hole is almost filled and it looks like our famous club is heading in the right direction.

The way that Liverpool played against Tottenham yesterday certainly proved that the team have the character and the mental strength that was quite missing in last few seasons.

It was fantastic to watch them cope with everything that Tottenham threw at them from the word go. I would not say that Liverpool were the far better side in the game as Spurs’ tactical and direct approach to the game held Liverpool on the back foot for the most of the second half.

We don’t have angelic players like RVP, Rooney, Hazard or Aguero. What Liverpool do have of course is a group of players in Luis Suarez, Daniel Sturridge and Philippe Coutinho who are beginning to have a fantastic telepathic understanding with each other in the pitch. First goal showed how well this team can play. From some artful footwork from the right back Johnson to Coutinho to Enrique to Suarez who finished the move in a divine fashion.

Coutinho is still have to improve his work rate which is very crucial in the premier league.  But he is a player who can only improve with age and I really hope that he stays at Anfield for many years to come.

Now I have moaned about Downing in the past, but give the lad his due, dark voodoo that holding him back, appears to have disappeared. He deserved some credit for his goal which he scored with his weaker foot after showing some sheer persistence.

Liverpool’s defense was a real letdown again but I think we have all become accustomed to that now. Today we let a defender score twice to ensure that Tottenham were on the ascendancy but we were not going to give up that easily.

Credit to Brendan too for the substitution and to Allen for wrestling back some possession and adding control and calm in the midfield.

Is This A New Beginning?

It’s so refreshing for the kop fans to have our noise reburbering famous atmosphere is back again at Anfield. It certainly gave the impression that everyone was watching and enjoying the Liverpool of old.

We are now above Everton in the league and in 6th position. We are just two points away from Arsenal and seven points off the pace with fourth placed Chelsea. So as long as the team can continue playing as they have been in the last three games and if lady luck shines on them as well then the season could yet have a happy ending (Top Four).

Addition of a defender to partner Agger and one play-maker to weave magic from midfield in Summer market will be a real boost for us. Is this a beginning of a new chapter in our famous history? I hope so. All in all happy with the progress.
