Liverpool took control of the Champions League last-eight tie with a 2-0 win in the first leg at Anfield.
Naby Keita and Roberto Firmino were the scorers for the Reds, who had enough hiccups in the game to suggest that the second leg won’t be a stroll in the park.
Around the fifth minute, Sadio Mane picked Firmino out in the box, who in turn found Keita with a clever pass at the edge of the box. The Guinea international then unleashed a shot towards goal, that took a deflection off Oliver Torres and balloons into the back of the net.
20 minutes later, a defence-splitting pass from Jordan Henderson found Trent Alexander-Arnold on the right-hand side of the Porto box.
The youngster then showed great composure to find Firmino with a flash-across-the-box ball. The Brazilian then had an unguarded net to put the ball into.
Porto had two good chances that fell to their main striker – Moussa Marega. But both of his attempts fell to his weaker left foot, hence, the finishing wasn’t strong.
Liverpool had two glaring opportunities in the first half to add to the scoring. However, Mohamed Salah missed one and Firmino ballooned his shot over from close range.
All in all, it was a professional performance from the Reds who must be backing themselves to score an away goal in Portugal and make it very tough for their opponents.
