Manchester United Should Avoid Splashing The Cash Morata After The Latest Developments

Manchester United are close to completing their second signing of the summer as they have reportedly agreed on a £75m for Belgian international Romelu Lukaku.

The former Chelsea man is expected to be the first choice striker next season for the Red Devils, who were also looking at Real Madrid star Alvaro Morata as a possible option in the first team. Jose Mourinho has lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic, his top goal scorer from the previous season already and is also set to lose Wayne Rooney this summer, making his side a bit weak in the attack.

Lukaku’s arrival will solve that to a certain extent but do United also need to spend on Morata? The former Juventus man is expected to cost no less than €70m this summer and there are many reasons why the Red Devils should avoid this deal, especially after successfully luring Lukaku to Old Trafford.

At just 24, the versatile Spanish attacker is an excellent addition to the squad and is an upgrade on a couple of first team options for United but the English side already have enough options in their armoury to be able to get through the next season without much of a fuzz.

They are set to compete on all four fronts next season and should add all the depth they need for the upcoming campaign but it might be time for Mourinho to trust the youngsters in his team.

The likes of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have shown signs of form sporadically and though they are still relatively young, they have enough exposure to the highest level, for United to depend on them regularly.

Lukaku should lead the attack for Mourinho in a 4-3-3 system, leaving just two other places in the first team for wingers. Martial and Rashford will fight with the likes of Jesse Lingard, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Juan Mata for those two places, with extra pressure coming in from James Wilson.

The 21-year old English striker has 15 senior games in the Premier League already, scoring 3 goals. It might be time for United to promote him to the first team. He has an astonishing goal scoring record of 27 goals and 6 assists from 82 appearances across all competitions in his career and though his loan deal with Derby did not end well, he is surely ready for the challenges and should save United some millions.

It would be wise for United to stop their spending spree and stick with what they have at their disposal.

Do you think United still need Morata, after adding Lukaku to their squad?
