The One Area That Klopp Needs To Strengthen At Liverpool This Summer

Jurgen Klopp has transformed Liverpool into one of the most exciting clubs in world football to watch and his now planning to make certain additions to the squad that are sure to improve the quality of the first team, helping them to compete at the highest level.

Klopp addressed the lack of width in the squad by signing Mohamed Salah early in the window but he is now desperate to add quality to other areas of the squad but there are more than one positions for Klopp to repair this summer.

The Reds have a relatively weak squad and Klopp will look for depth. But he also has to improve on certain areas of the first team next season. Here is the most important are that Klopp needs to add some quality to, this summer at Anfield.

Central Defence

The Reds conceded more goals than any other club in the top-6 last season and were fragile every time the ball was in their half.Klopp brought Joel Matip in on a free transfer last summer and has allowed him enough time to establish himself as the first-choice.

However, his partner Dejan Lovren has just not been able to fill the fans and the manager with confidence. Impeccable at times, Lovren is a bit inconsistent and Klopp wants a more reliable centre-back who he can call upon, in the toughest of the games next season.

Ragnar Klavan is currently the only backup in the squad for Liverpool as they have decided not to use the services of French defender Mamadou Sakho anymore. Joe Gomez is far from first team action while Lucas Leiva may not stay at the club for too long, making Klopp’s work all the more difficult.

Options

Hence, it does not come as a surprise that Liverpool are ready to smash their transfer record and are willing to pay a world-record fee to land Dutch international Virgil van Dijk. The Southampton man agreed to terms with the Anfield outfit but an illegal approach from the club meant that they had to withdraw their interest in the player.

The Saints are demanding in excess of £60m for his services and if Liverpool get ready to pay the price, they could still land the star defender, who could solve even the set-piece problems at the club.

However, Klopp is already looking at alternatives, with the likes of Stephan de Vrij, Kalidou Koulibaly, Ben Gibson, Kostas Manolas, Aymeric Laporte and Jose Gimenez all linked with a move to Anfield.

Who do you think is the best option for Klopp’s system?
