Full Time: Liverpool 1-1 Everton
Wayne Rooney’s first ever Merseyside derby goal helped Everton earn a point from their trip to Anfield this weekend as Jurgen Klopp once again failed to get the better of Sam Allardyce on his own turf. Mohamed Salah continued his prolific goalscoring form with a stunning goal late in the first-half and the Reds went into the break with a deserved lead.
They dominated most of the game until Dejan Lovren’s silly push on Calvert-Lewin gave Everton a chance to get back into the game, as they were gifted a penalty. Klopp’s team selection may once again come under the scanner but with more than 75% of the ball, Liverpool should have had it in their bag. Here’s how the Liverpool players fared on the night.

Simon Mignolet (7)
Was confident with his handling and punches in the box. Was quick off his mark on a couple of occasions. Unlucky to have not kept a clean sheet.
Joe Gomez (7)
Was always willing to take on his man on the flank and gave no space for the Everton attackers, in what was another impressive display by the youngster.
Dejan Lovren (5)
Was solid at the back, dealing well with everything thrown at him but did not have to go so close to the Calvert-Lewin, which left the referee with no other option but to point to the spot.
Ragnar Klavan (7)
Won everything in the air and bullied the Everton front-line. Was quick to make interceptions and win the ball back as he is growing in confidence with every game.
Andrew Robertson (7)
Did not put a foot wrong in defence and put in a few decent crosses on a comfortable night for the Scot.
Jordan Henderson (6)
Was slightly more attack-minded in the second half but was too pragmatic with his passing and will once again be the topic of discussion for Liverpool fans.
James Milner (7)
Was a bundle of energy in the middle of the park as he harassed the Everton midfield and made a couple of decent passes and crosses that sent panic to the visiting backline.
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (7)
Started as a part of the midfield three on the right-hand side. His industry and energy often created problems for Everton. Needs to improve his final ball to add quality to Liverpool’s attack.
Sadio Mane (7)
The Senegalese midfielder was the driving force for Liverpool for most of the first half. Faded away in the second half and could not do enough to win his side the game.
Mohamed Salah (9)
On a night where Liverpool players found very little space in the final third, Salah made some for himself and put a curler past Pickford, as he moves on to 13 league goals for the season. Is growing confident by each game and is easily one of the best players in England at the moment.
Dominic Solanke (6)
His movement in and around the box and energy to win the ball back would have impressed the manager but he failed to impose his presence on the Everton defence, like his manager would have liked him to.
Substitutes:
Roberto Firmino (6)
Came on to replace Salah after the hour mark and made a couple of decent dribbles. But that was all he could do late in the game.
Philippe Coutinho (6)
Had a couple of free-kicks within range and did well to create a couple of half chances. However, he did not have enough time to breach the Everton defence.
Danny Ings (N/A)
Happy to be back on the field, making his first PL appearance after almost 18 months.
