Why Liverpool have done well by rejecting a loan deal for Bobby Duncan

Liverpool are blessed with several quality youngsters coming through their ranks under Jurgen Klopp.

Trent Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez are regulars under the German while Harry Wilson, Ryan Kent and Marko Grujic have impressed on loans in recent years.

Bobby Duncan

The reserve and youth sides of the Reds also feature some starlets ready to make it big, and one of them is Bobby Duncan.

The 18-year-old is the cousin of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and was snapped by from the Manchester City academy.

The English striker helped the Liverpool U18s win the FA Youth Cup last season and featured for Klopp in this summer’s pre-season games.

Duncan needs to continue his development if he wants to feature for the first-team, and Sky Sports claims that the Reds rejected a loan offer from Danish side FC Nordsjaelland.

The right call by the Reds

There is no denying the fact that Duncan needs to play first-team games regularly to continue his growth.

However, sending him to the Danish league should not be the best option for the youngster.

Liverpool have seen Grujic and Wilson star during their time with Championship clubs, and now the pair are playing top–flight football.

Grujic has been incredible at Hertha Berlin and is back for a second loan stint while Wilson scored for Bournemouth in the 2-1 win over Aston Villa.

Duncan needs to be shipped out to a Championship club to test his abilities against quality opposition.

The second tier of English football is extremely demanding and clubs need to play almost every three days should they progress into the later stages of the cup competitions.

Duncan formed a great partnership with Paul Glatzel for the Liverpool U23s and the next logical step is sending him out on loan to a quality side.

Verdict

The Reds haven’t allowed Rhian Brewster to leave on loan deals either and the youngster could feature for the senior side this season.

Duncan, however, needs to leave for experience and it will be interesting to see if the Reds find a suitable destination for the 18-year-old.
