Liverpool Vs Stoke City – Highlights + Player Ratings

Share

3 points, a clean sheet, not a bad way to start the season for Rodgers and his men. Daniel Sturridge’s impressive effort in the first-half salvaged 3 points for the Reds in the opening day of the season.

Player ratings:

Simon Mignolet

Penalty save at the very first game? Impressive from Liverpool’s new signing. Had a nervy start but managed to bring back his sense into the game. 7.5/10

Glen Johnson

As always, provided the Reds with an attacking option down the right. Had a decent game. 6.5/10

José Enrique

Strong in the challenge and assisted Coutinho down the left as they doubled up on the Stoke full-back to devastating effect. 6.5/10

Kolo Toure

Calm and composed from the former Arsenal and Manchester City defender. A more than decent performance to say the least. 7/10

Daniel Agger

Was neck and neck to Crouch’ aerial threats and was equally a threat while at attacking positions during set-pieces. 7/10

Steven Gerrard

Steven Gerrard was great in his deeper-lying role, pinging balls across the pitch and dictating proceedings for his side. His set-piece delivery was impeccable. 7.5/10

Coutinho

The Brazilian continued where he left off last season. He was instrumental along with Gerrard in the final third as their best attacking moves were started by Coutinho. 8/10

Jordan Henderson

A typical day at the office for the midfielder. Worked hard, but missed few crucial chances and although it may not have affected Liverpool’s result today, it could have cost them badly some other day. 6.5/10

Lucas Leiva

Solid enough in his role as the shield in the midfield three. Was booked for an over-zealous tackle in the opening period but helped prevent the threats of Etherington and Walters out wide when the Reds’ full-backs bombed forward. 7/10

Iago Aspas

Not a bad debut at all for the Spaniard. His link up play with fellow forwards looked impressive and he can only improve on that once he settles down completely to life at the Premier League.  7/10

Daniel Sturridge

The England International’s Magnificent strike was enough for the Reds to secure three points. Took his goal with aplomb and looked comfortable interchanging with the fluid frontline. 8/10
