3 Things Klopp Must Do To Beat Manchester United

Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are set to take on another big opponent in a matter of days as Manchester United come riding to town. Both teams were involved in brilliant 3-3 draws; Liverpool drew thanks to a last minute goal by Joe Allen against Arsenal, while Manchester United conceded a last minute goal to draw at Newcastle 3-3.

The Red Devils had earlier won the fixture thanks to a 3-1 score line where the headlines was written by Anthony Martial’s great goal. United will be looking to make it four wins in a row against Liverpool but the Reds will be hopeful of a good performance against the team.

Liverpool might have had poor outings against some of the league’s smaller clubs, no disrespect meant, but the Reds have done admirably against the more well-known teams such as Chelsea, Manchester City and Arsenal under Jurgen Klopp.

The German will be looking for a victory against Manchester United and here are three things Klopp must ensure if Liverpool are to bag the three points and climb higher in the league standing.

  1. Play with the same energy as against Manchester City and Arsenal

Liverpool were brilliant against Arsenal, barring their defence and goalkeeping, the Reds were good value for the three goals and could have had more. The Reds would have to play in the same vein if they are to get the win against Manchester United.

Playing with the same energy might not be easy for Jurgen Klopp’s men but that is the way they would have to go about their business. Liverpool played with the same energy against Manchester City and that blew the other team from Manchester away, something similar could do the same for this Manchester side as well.

2. Roberto Firmino must play up top

Apart from the game plan staying the same as in the Arsenal game, Roberto Firmino must play up top for Liverpool against Manchester United as well. He might not have the physical presence of a Christian Benteke but his movement and certainly his finishing, as seen against Arsenal should make him a sure shot starter.

The Brazilian scored a couple of wonderful goals against Petr Cech and even did well against Manchester City and Chelsea. Maybe playing in the big games gets the best out of Firmino and if he can bag a goal or two against Manchester United, no one would complain about his slow start to his life at Liverpool.

3. Put Dejan Lovren in the heart of defence

Dejan Lovren

Dejan Lovren could be a player who returns to full training before the United game and Klopp should bring the defender back into the first team against their rivals. Lovren also won the player of the month for Liverpool, his performances under Klopp has been incredible and he looks nothing like the waste of a defender that many though he was when he moved to Liverpool last season.

Lovren might be big risk but he is the best chance Liverpool might have of keeping Wayne Rooney and company from scoring a goal and the Croatian could well put up another great performance for Liverpool on Sunday.
