Liverpool Transfers: Has Brendan Rodgers Done The Right Business? (Part I)

Share

Liverpool have done business ferociously this summer targeting players from the very beginning and then pursuing them with a certain intent rarely seen among the top clubs. And at the end of the window it can be said that they have done a decent job getting the players that they wanted, eventually strengthening the squad. It is true that Luis Suarez can never be replaced, but Liverpool are close to replacing him with getting players to match his flair and others to match his scoring ability. Many still fear that the Liverpool recruits do not turn out like Spurs, but we beg to differ with them and here we make a review of all their summer recruits.

Adam Lallana

The Saints midfielder is the costliest of the Liverpool transfers, the price being £25 million. He is a proven material in the Premier League and played wonderfully for Southampton last season, troubling the defenders of the oppositions at will. He is one of the most creative youngsters of the England national team and even did well for his side in the recently held World Cup. He will certainly be the first choice ahead of Coutinho and now the Brazilian will have to prove his worth as Lallana is capable to both score and create goals consistently.

Having led the Saints last term, he has got what it takes to be a leader on the pitch and take some responsibility of the ageing Steven Gerrard.

Emre Can

The former Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is being considered as a long term replacement of Seven Gerrard. It is too early to say something like that, but from the glimpses that we have seen of him, we can confidently say that £10 million is a very modest price for him. He has all the traits to be successful in the Premier League, the pace, the raw physicality and the aggression. The defensive midfield was one of the most problematic areas for the Kops last season and Rodgers has shown his faith in Can opting for no other player for that position. He is for the future and our eyes are glued to him. Javier

Manquillo

The Atletico Madrid right back is one of the most talented Spanish defenders at the moment and a lot of clubs were after his services. Rodgers has taken him on a two season loan and already he has played two high profile league matches. With Glen Johnson being out of touch, we may see more of Manquillo in the coming months. But it must be kept in mind that while Manquillo is extremely talented, he is still not a top class defender and that is the reason Simeone has let him go. So Rodgers must be extremely judicious in his use of Manquillo.

Lazar Markovic

He is the one who is being considered as the prodigal son. The word on the street is that he has all the potential to be the next big thing and the £20 million paid for him by Liverpool is actually next to nothing. The attacking midfielder has already attracted the attention of the world at Benfica and he can live upto his hype, we have a real treat on our hands. There were a few clubs after his signature, most notably Chelsea, but ultimately Liverpool emerged as the winner.
