Liverpool opinion: Should Liverpool make a move for Dani Olmo?

According to Calciomercato, Liverpool are in competition with Barcelona, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund for the signature of Dinamo Zagreb winger Dani Olmo.

The report says that the Reds were scouting the 20-year old in the autumn with a £9million bid in mind but the Spaniard’s value has doubled, with Dinamo looking for a fee of around €25million for the youngster.

Liverpool’s wide options include Sadio Mane, Xherdan Sahqiri and star man Mo salah but the latter has been often used up front by Jurgen Klopp this season. The signing of Dani Olmo will provide the backup that Liverpool need and he would be a long-term investment.

Dani Olmo is a product of the famous La Masia academy that produced the likes of Lionel Messi, Andres Iniesta and Xavi Hernandez. Olmo left the Catalans to join Dinamo Zagreb as a replacement to Alen Halilovoc, who made the move to the Spanish giants.

Olmo made his debut for Dinamo as a 16-year old in 2015. A right-footed left-winger by trade, Olmo is capable of playing on both wings and is comfortable on both feet. The 20-year-old has also been used as a second striker behind Mario Gavranović by manager Nenad Bjelica.

Olmo also featured in central midfield in the Europa League tie against Belgian giants Anderlecht earlier this season. Such versatility at just 20 years of age is a remarkable trait to possess and makes Olmo a brilliant asset to any squad.

Olmo’s blistering pace and control over the ball combined with exceptional dribbling skills makes him an outstanding prospect. With the right motivation and management, he has the potential to be the next big thing in world football.

In the league, Olmo scored 8 goals in 23 starts last season but has only scored twice so far this campaign. In Europe, the 20-year-old averages 2 key passes per game, 3 dribbles per game and 1.5 shots per 90 minutes.

However, the Spaniard needs to improve in his passing which has been poor, with under 75% accuracy this season. Olmo also needs to register more crosses in his game as he currently averages just 0.8 per 90 minutes.

Conclusion

Dani Olmo is not a player who will walk straight into Liverpool’s starting eleven but is someone who can make an impact if properly managed.

His pace, work rate and control over the ball makes him a player who would fit Jurgen Klopp’s style and under his guidance, Olmo could develop into a fine player. Liverpool should make a move for him in the summer.
