Liverpool FC Opinion: The Reds should sign the free-agent Dani Alves and here’s why?

According to a report from Daily Express, Liverpool have been backed to sign Brazilian full-back Dani Alves, who has recently announced his departure from PSG.

Prior to his short Ligue 1 stint, the former Barca star spent a season with Juventus, where he helped them to win a domestic double. Alves is currently having a great run in Copa America as Brazil awaits Peru in the final.

Alves – a real example to show age is just a number

Alves continues to defy his age as becomes more relentless with every passing season. The 36-year-old has racked up a plethora of trophies thus far in his career and he has never gone trophyless for a decade.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, Alves proved out to be a working-class hero for the Parisians in the past two seasons, bagging 8 goals and 18 assists.

Interestingly, the Brazilian showcased his versatility by playing in numerous positions on the field.

Why Should  Liverpool sign Alves?

The Reds had a significant end to the 2018/19 campaign, winning the Champions League campaign and finishing second behind Manchester City in the Premier league table.

One of the major takeaways for the Reds in their success was the influence of full-backs and the man who was more in the spotlight was the youngster Trent-Alexander Arnold.

The English right-back had his dream breakthrough campaign under Juergen Klopp, racking up an assist tally of 16 in the process.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

With the German manager aiming to end the Reds’ long-running Premier League trophy drought, he should add more depth to his right-back position, i.e finding a great second-string option for Trent.

Alves fits the bill, given that Klopp is much inclined to the counter-pressing style and the Brazilian’s versatility would be something the former Borussia Dortmund manager can make full use of.

In the ongoing Copa America competition, Alves has averaged 2.4 dribbles per game and 2.8 tackles per game, which indicates how pivotal he is turning out to be for his national side.

Final Verdict

The Reds are yet to make a statement in the current transfer window and the acquisition of Alves, who arrives as a free agent would be nothing but a shrewd deal.

Having an established full-back on board, Klopp would be much relieved of the bench strength.
