Liverpool signing this 26-year-old Serie A rebel would be nothing but a terrible transfer blunder – Agreed?

Liverpool FC Opinion: Why the Reds shouldn’t pay attention to Icardi?

According to a report from Independent, Mauro Icardi is open to a move to the Premier League after Inter Milan expressed their lack of plans for the Argentine next season.

And the report adds that Liverpool could be one of his next destinations, while clubs like Juventus, Roma are keen on landing Inter’s contract rebel.

Icardi – a high-profile attacker who is a victim of his own misdeeds

Even with the controversies that engulfed him for the most part of his career, Icardi always looked a cut above the rest in terms of performances. In fact, he kept his goalscoring ratio intact over a long course for Inter.

However, the 2018/19 campaign saw a slight decline in his stats and the inconsistency further got aggravated when he turned a rebel after being stripped off the captaincy.

After spending a brief hiatus, Icardi returned to the side towards the latter half of the season, eventually racking up 17 goals and 5 assists in all competitions.

Why Icardi will never be an exact fit for Liverpool’s playing 11?

Despite being credited with so much of talent and attributes that place him among the best centre-forwards of our times, Icardi still can’t be a viable addition for Klopp’s playing 11 next season.

Elsewhere at Anfield, the former Dortmund manager is looking for slight alterations to the current squad instead of overhauling it.

Given that Roberto Firmino, the Reds’ focal point alongside Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah in the attacking line-up, has played a key role behind Klopp’s successful 2018/19 campaign, the attacking trident is something that the German manager must rely on for the next season.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah

Whilst there are some reinforcements certainly needed in the midfield, the Reds need not prioritize signing an attacker.

On the downside, besides his attitude issues, Icardi would certainly struggle to embrace the Reds’ counter-pressing style of play, meaning the former Barcelona youth player can’t be the horse for Klopp’s course.

Final Verdict

The Merseyside club ended one of their most tedious seasons and, at the same time, remained successful by clinching the Champions League trophy.

With the Premier League turning out to be the German manager’s next goal after getting piped out by Manchester City in a taut tile race the last term,  Klopp must be smart in the transfer window and shouldn’t pay heed to signing Icardi.
