Why Nicolas Acevedo will be a golden signing for Liverpool

According to reports from the Mirror, Liverpool are keeping tabs on Nicolas Acevedo – a 19-year-old Uruguayan who plays his football for Liverpool De Montevideo in his home country.

Liverpool have had an excellent season, with most of their players firing on all cylinders. Finishing last season with a defeat in the final of the biggest club competition in the world, one would’ve expected a positive reaction from Jurgen Klopp’s side.

His charisma is being portrayed by his team this season, so much so that it seems like Klopp is convinced that his squad had enough depth to go the entire season without any changes.

But with Christmas and New Years past us, Liverpool have come out of the holiday period having picked up a few knocks. With Joe Gomez and Joel Matip facing wriggles, Dejan Lovren has been played.

Virgil Van Dijk has been extremely effective and takes massive responsibility in the middle of the park. He keeps the ball moving as well with the help of players like Fabinho, Jordan Henderson and Naby Keita. On the other hand, Lovren’s shoddiness has cost Liverpool multiple points.

There is the need for another composed centre-half though and Liverpool must identify a player who can come in and put in top-level performances that can ensure that they maintain their status at the top of the Premier League intact until the final day of the campaign. They are currently top and clear by 4 points but with a team like Manchester City in your tail, there’s no time to rest.

They have identified Uruguayan defender Nicolas Acevedo as a potential youngster who can come in and really make his mark on Jurgen Klopp’s first-team. He currently plays for Liverpool de Montevideo in his home country and has been scouted by both Liverpool and Manchester United as per Mirror.

He is 19 years old and has made 4 appearances for the club’s first-team, notching up an assist in the process. His defensive positioning and movement are both excellent while his recovery runs are extremely powerful as well.

With the right development and nurturing, he has the potential to partner Van Dijk in Liverpool’s defensive system. This is an absolute no-brainer of a signing and Liverpool must do everything to bring him to Anfield.
